-

KUCHING: The Sarawak Sepak Takraw Associat ion ( PSS) president Dato Sri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki is appealing to the State government will reconsider its application to upgrade its hall.

He said limitations at the PSS hall made it hard for the state body to host national and international competitions. It also hampered PSS from helping the state government to promote sports tourism in the state.

“PS S wi l l or g a ni s e 1 0 competitions this year which is an increase when compared to last year. This is why we want to promote this sport to all the people in the state.

“Apart form that, we would also l ike to upgrade three competitions to international standard in response to the government’s efforts to promote sports tourism.

“In this respect, I am hoping that the State government can seriously consider our application to upgrade this hall so that we can help to promote sepak takraw and put Sarawak on the world map just like the other sports,” he said at the closing of the WAB Mantan YDP PSS Cup Sepak Takraw Championship at the PSS Hall, Sarawak Stadium Complex recently.

According to Khalid, sepak takraw should be treated like other sports because it is a Malay heritage sport played by all and it is also played throughout the world.

“I hope the new leadership led by chief minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg can realise our wish to upgrade this hall.

“This is very important as it will also be used as a venue to train our athletes and more so in preparing them for Sukma XIX in Perak next year,” he added.
