-

KUCHING: Six students from a secondary school in Tebedu were handed over to the police over suspicion of being involved in drug abuse on Wednesday.

The matter came to light after the school’s disciplinary teacher discovered one of the students was in possession of what was believed to be Syabu during a random spot check around 9am that day.

A total of six male students, aged between 14 and 17, ended up being rounded up in connection with the discovery of the drug.

They comprised a Form 2 student, three Form 4 students, and two Form 5 students.

Urine tests conducted on the six boys found them to be positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

“The student who was in possession of the drug ( Syabu) has been remanded for three days, while the other five students have been released after their statements were recorded,” said State Narcotics Crime Investigation Department head Supt Sahar Abdul Latif, who confirmed the case when contacted yesterday.

He added that the five released students will be under the watchful eyes of the police as investigation into the matter is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Serian police personnel arrested two men, aged 31 and 33 years old, at premises in Tebedu around noon the same day.

During the arrest, the pair was found to be in possession of plastic packets and straws containing suspected Syabu.

Urine tests conducted on the two individuals showed them to be positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
