UPP Sibu to give 2,500 mobile fire extinguishers to longhouses

-

SIBU: UPP Community Service Board Sibu will be placing 2,500 units of mobile fire extinguishers, costing nearly RM500,000, in all longhouses in Bawang Assan.

Board chairman Dato Andrew Wong said each door would be given a unit of the mobile fire fighting equipment, which was as effective as that of a normal fire extinguisher.

“In fact, the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in Peninsular Malaysia has certified it as a very good supplement to the normal fire extinguisher.

“We have ordered 2,500 units for longhouses here. We plan to give one unit to each door. This is what we want to do and the project will be fully funded by the board. So there is no need for permission from other state agencies,” Andrew told reporters yesterday.

He was met when accompanying Second Finance Minister and Minister of International Trade and E- Commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who was making a preGawai visit to Rumah Anchum in Rantau Panjang near here.

Andrew said they are also considering expanding the distribution to other resettlement areas, such as Kampung Bahagia Jaya in Teku, due to recent fire cases there.

“But that I need to work with Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health Dr Annuar Rapaee.”

He said he hoped to kick-start the project in July, subject to the receipt of the mobile fire extinguishers which will take three months to arrive.
