VAT69, UTK to help with security at SEA Games

KUALA LUMPUR: The Royal Malaysia Police ( PDRM) will station adequate personnel in every location of the 2017 29th SEA Games championsh­ip in August, including members of the Special Action Unit ( UTK) and Komander 69 ( VAT 69).

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishal Singh said in addition, PDRM would station personnel from the Bomb Disposal Unit ( UPB), Air Operations Force ( PGU), General Operations Force ( PGA), Canine Unit ( K9), CID and general duty personnel.

“The police will station adequate police personnel at every 29th SEA Games location to face any incident,” he told reporters after witnessing an Ex- Op Rimau Drill at the Bukit Jalil Stadium here yesterday.

A total 350 PDRM members from numerous units underwent a drill which will be continued at three separate locations such as the KLCC Mosque, Langkawi National Sailing Training Centre and Lembah Bidong Endurance Park, in Terengganu.

Amar Singh said the training also involved other security agencies, namely, Civil Defence Force (APAM), Fire and Rescue Department, Tenaga Nasional Bhd ( TNB) and other agencies related to event organisati­ons.

“The drill today comprised several major scenarios such as bomb threat, building collapse and threat by an individual with a dangerous weapon to ensure police preparedne­ss.

“It is aimed at training policemen to face any security crisis and threat which may take place during the organisati­on of the SEA Games, testing effectiven­ess of police planning and action and the role of brigade commanders as Crisis Response Team (CRT) chiefs,” he added.

The 29th SEA Games will see Kuala Lumpur, as host, receiving the influx of athletes from 10 Asean countries which will contest in 405 events from 38 sports. — Bernama
