KOTA SAMARAHAN: The tar- sealed road connecting the villages of Lubuk Punggur and Lubuk Buntin in Simunjan district is expected to be completed in September this year.

As for now, the journey it takes to reach these areas from the city is approximately one hour due to the bad road condition. Once completed, the duration of the journey to travel to these villages will be less. Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department

According to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, who spoke to reporters yesterday, once completed, around 5,000 people who are living in the area, specifically those living in the villages of Lubuk Punggur, Lubuk Buntin, Lubuk Samsu, Tanjung Sap, Tegelam, Benat Ulu, Benat Hilir, Sungai Paku and Sateman, will benefit from the road.

“As for now, the journey it takes to reach these areas from the city is approximately one hour due to the bad road condition. Once completed, the duration of the journey to travel to these villages will be less,” she added.

The 22.5 kilometre-long Lubuk Punggur - Lubuk Buntin road project was also recently hit with delays due to soil erosion at an area between the Kampung Benat Ulu and Kampung Benat Hilir.

To solve the problem, Nancy, who is also Batang Sadong MP, revealed that the Department of Irrigation and Drainage and the Public Works Department had no choice but to reroute the road.

“Rerouting the road in turn caused delays in the project due to the conversion of land ownership and redesigning the road. Everything has now been settled and we are glad that the project will be completed soon,” she said.

Nancy was at Kampung Lubuk Buntin last week to meet the villagers there and inspect the progress of the Lubuk Punggur - Lubuk Buntin road project there.

During her visit to the village, she also took time to deliver contributions to 106 individuals comprising single mothers, the disabled and the needy at the village’s mosque, Masjid Nur Islam.

Nancy revealed around RM1.18 million has been spent for the implementation of various development and welfare programmes in her Batang Sadong parliamentary area.
