Dr Ting vows to continue serving the people

MIRI: Former Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon has vowed to continue to serve the people despite being disqualified from the State Legislative Assembly ( DUN) on May 12.

“That day was the darkest day in Malaysia’s history. If there is a by- election for Pujut constituency, the voters must come out in all force to show that they are here to let their voices heard and that they want a fair and just election,” Dr Ting said at a DAP dinner at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club on Sunday.

Dr Ting took the opportunity to thank the 8,899 voters who voted for him in the last state election, stating that it was their confidence and support for democratic rights that won the day.

“Being elected as the people’s representative opened my eyes to many people struggling from poverty and living in hardship. The gap between the rich and the poor is huge, it makes me sad,” he said.

He also clarified that despite all the controversy on his dual citizenship issue, he had never cheated on the voters and that he is a true, legit Malaysian.

“There is no one person who can prove that I am not ( Malaysian) and no one could take away my citizenship,” he stressed.

Thousands of DAP members from Kuching, Sibu and Miri attended the dinner. Present were DAP secretary- general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, DAP Sarawak chairman and Kota Sentosa assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen, Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei, Sarawak DAP secretary Alan Ling Sie Kiong and DAP youth chief Wong Kah Who.
