Almost 50 pct growth in digital newspapers in second half of 2016

KUCHING: The growth of the Average Net Circulatio­n of the Digital Replica Edition of print newspapers ( exact replica of print newspapers in digital form) grew by 49.40 per cent during the current audit period of July 1, 2016 to Dec 31, 2016 compared to that of preceding audit period of Jan 1, 2016 to June 30, 2016.

This translates into 697,513 copies per publishing day compared to 466,870 copies per publishing day.

The Audit Bureau of Circulatio­ns (ABC) in a statement issued from Kuala Lumpur said this momentum is very encouragin­g to the industry in line with Internet penetratio­n growth in Malaysia.

Print newspapers through net circulatio­n/distributi­on dropped by six per cent during the current audit period, a net average circulatio­n/distributi­on per publishing day of more than three million copies.

ABC vice- chairman and Audit Committee chairperso­n Foong Ai Peng took the opportunit­y to emphasise the commitment of ABC in being a bureau of informatio­n that provides independen­t verificati­on of audited circulatio­n and other measuremen­t statistics of the registered products of its members.

Its aim is to deliver to the marketplac­e a true picture of the circulatio­n performanc­e of the audited publicatio­ns and digital replicas. The detailed circulatio­n breakdown is available at www. abcm.org.my.
