‘Government is not a genie, fairy-godmother’

-

MIRI: The government is not a genie or fairy-godmother who can perform magic to fulfil people’s requests and needs overnight.

“We can’t do magic to fulfil people’s wishes overnight. Please understand that it takes time due to limitations and constraints, including the priority of the agency,” Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting said at a pre- Gawai gathering hosted by Tudan Desaras Resettlement Scheme residents here recently.

“Don’t grumble and hold grudges against the government if it takes quite a long time for you to receive (the answer to) your requests and needs.

“It is not the intention of the government to delay in fulfilling it.”

In this context, Ting reminded the people not to be taken for a ride by the opposition which, he said, always paints bad and negative impressions by alleging the government is not sincere and is helping the people halfheartedly.

“The government knows and understands the problems, needs and aspirations of the people.

“If the government is not sensitive and committed towards improving the quality and standard of living of the people, I can bet that until now you will continue to squat on state or private land.”

A total of 136 squatters have been allocated with lots for them to build houses in the resettlement scheme.

We can’t do magic to fulfil people’s wishes overnight. Please understand that it takes time due to limitations and constraints, including the priority of the agency. Datuk Sebastian Ting, Piasau assemblyman
