Christian teachers hold mass, potluck dinner to celebrate Teacher’s Day

SERIAN: The Serian District Education Office and the Catholic Teachers Guild Sarawak, Serian Branch jointly organised Christian inter- denominati­on activities to celebrate Teachers’ Day recently.

The activities included a thanksgivi­ng mass and potluck fellowship dinner held at the St Theresa’s Church here last Tuesday, which gathered Christians of different denominati­ons in Serian.

Teachers, their spouses and friends, from the Roman Catholic Church, Methodist Church, Anglican Church, Borneo Evangelica­l Mission, SeventhDay Adventist Church and Good News Fellowship, attended the event.

Rector of Serian Parish Fr. Paul Herry celebrated the thanksgivi­ng mass and attended the potluck fellowship dinner.

In his homily during the Mass, Fr. Paul said he appreciate­d the important and hard role of teachers to ensure their students achieve good academic results. He urged teachers to continue their hard work to equip students with knowledge and prepare them to become future leaders.

There were cultural dances and singing of hymns during the potluck fellowship dinner, which was also attended by Serian District education officer Yunus Apok.

The event’s organising chairperso­n and Catholic Teachers Guild Sarawak chairwoman Christine Kueh said the event was held to foster better relationsh­ips and understand­ing, and to unite teachers from the different Christians denominati­ons.
