SHAH ALAM: Quick and courageous action by a kopitiam restaurant manager in Section 15 here resulted in the detention of three members of the restaurant break-in gang known as the ‘Muniandy Kopitiam Gang’, here on Sunday morning.

In the incident at about 4am, the restaurant manager, Ahmad Faizalli Mohamad Abdullah Sani, 30, saw a man behaving in a suspicious manner in front of the restaurant and after inspecting the restaurant, he found there were ‘ forced’ marks on the door of the restaurant which was not closed.

When met by reporters at the Shah Alam District Police Headquarters, here yesterday, Ahmad Faizalli said he then saw the man coming out of the restaurant and he gave chase before seeing a Mobile Patrol Vehicle ( MPV) Unit on patrol in the area and asked for their assistance.

“At that time I did not think of other things except to catch the man and I eventually caught him with assistance from the MPV members,” said the man who had been working at the kopitiam restaurant for one year.

Meanwhile, Shah Alam OCPD, ACP Shafien Mamat said the suspect had been detained with several housebreaking tools, not far from the location of the kopitiam.

He said further investigation found that the suspect had two other colleagues waiting outside the premises in a van and when the MPV unit was making the arrest on the first suspect, the van used by the suspect’s colleagues had passed near the MPV.

“The MPV unit obtained assistance from another MPV team who pursued the van but the suspect sped off endangering other road users when they drove against the traffic flow from Bulatan Perusahaan in Section 16, here heading for Pesiaran Raja Muda in Section 17, here.

“With the help of the MPV team and the Motorcycle Patrolling Unit ( URB) nearby, the van was blocked at Jalan Sungai Rasah in Section 16 and both suspects in the van were eventually detained, he told a media conference.
