Three nabbed for posing as policemen to commit robbery

-

ALOR SETAR: Three men who posed as policemen to rob a man were detained at Kampung Batu Lima, Sik on Wednesday.

Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief SAC Mior Farid Al Athrash Wahid said three men aged between 21 and 32 years, were arrested about 8.40am by the villagers before being handed over to the police.

“At 8.30am, the 30-year- old complainant, was on his way to Jeneri driving his Toyota Hilux before realising he was being followed by a Proton Saga and a Nissan Navara.

“At the scene, three men posing as police officers from Bukit Aman, got off their vehicles and approached the complainant while holding a pistol and batons,” he said in a press conference at Kedah police contingent headquarters here yesterday.

He said the complainant managed to contact his employer who then alerted the matter to the police and at the same time asking for help from the villagers by using WhatsApp application.

“The villagers arrested three suspects while two other suspects escaped using Proton Saga car,” he said.

Mior Farid Al Athrash said two weeks prior to the incident, another robbery was reported in Sik where the complainant was robbed and suffered losses amounting to RM10,000.

“We believe this is the second robbery carried out by the same group as they are using similar modus operandi. All of the suspects are believed to have come from Selangor, who came to Sik and stayed at homestay units before committing the crimes in the district.

“The suspects had previous criminal records involving drugs and other crimes, and the police are on the hunt for two other suspects. Police also seized a toy pistol, baton, machete, axe, mobile phones, and a Nissan Navara, used in the robbery,” he said.

The suspects were remanded for 11 days to facilitate investigations under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code. — Bernama
