Voon urges Ramadan stall operators to make hygiene a top priority

-

KUCHING: Stallholders at the Ramadan bazaars here have been advised to observe good hygiene and cleanliness.

PKR National Women vicepresident Voon Shiak Ni in giving this advice, said stall operators should take hygiene and cleanliness seriously for the sake of their business and the well being of the public.

“We have made our visits at the few Ramadan bazaars in and around Kuching. They are popular spots not only for our Muslim friends who buy food for breaking of fast but also those from other races.

“One of the most important issues that we wish to bring up is the issue of hygiene and cleanliness observed at these markets. For the past few years, we have heard of cases of food poisoning because of the lack of hygiene and local councils have conducted the necessary inspections . We also note that there were a lot of flies hovering over the foodat the markets but we could see that efforts were made by food operators to chase away all the flies,” she said in a press statement yesterday.

In order to ensure that stallholders continue to observe good hygiene and cleanliness, Voon called on health inspectors from local councils and the Health Department to conduct inspections regularly on all the Ramadan bazaars.

“This is to avoid any food poisoning. In fact, when food poisoning happens, it will also affect the business of all the food operators there. Therefore, it is advisable that all stall operators observe good hygiene and cleanliness.”

Voon also called on the public to continue to give support to the stallholders at Ramadan bazaars here by patronising their stalls.
