Young family with 4 OKU see glimmer of hope
KUCHING: A family in need from Kampung Emperoh Jambu in Padawan are finally seeing a ray of hope following an initiative taken by a community leader and Sarawak Administrative Officer ( SAO) Rangen Jamang from Padawan sub- district office to assist them.
Tellin Abang, 30, and her husband who was only identified as Francis, have four young children to look after.
The eldest is an eight-year- old girl in Primary 2 and the youngest a one-year- and-two-months- old boy.
The other children are a sixyearold boy in kindergarten and a five-year- old boy.
Besides the responsibility of looking after their children, the young couple have the additional challenging task of taking care of four family members, including an elderly man, who are disabled (OKU).
On Sunday, Rangen and Penghulu Richard Daho, together with a few volunteers and members of the village security and development committee (JKKK) managed to collect some food items and a little cash to present to the family at their home in the village.
The assistance was very much appreciated by housewife Tellin, whose husband works as a security guard at a primary school in the village, in view of the coming Gawai celebration.
“I really appreciate this and I would like to thank all those who have made this contribution to our family,” Tellin said in tears.
Tellin, who studied until Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM), said she has no choice but to accept the challenge to look after her children and the disabled family members.
“This is fate and there is nothing I can do but to accept the challenge and only God knows,” she said, while she received words of

encouragement and comfort from all those present.
Meanwhile, Richard, who hails from the village, said he is trying his best to help the family apply for welfare assistance, including asking a doctor to visit the family for OKU verification purposes.
Rangen said he took the initiative to assist the family after being informed by Richard about the family’s predicament with the hope of reducing the burden borne by the young couple.
“This is not for publicity purposes, but a sincere effort to help (the family) with the hope that the Welfare Department can help quickly,” he said, adding that he will also provide assistance.
