Jais, TBS continue channelling funds to help suraus, mosques run their activities

-

MIRI: The state Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) and Tabung Baitumal Sarawak ( TBS) will continue to pump in allocations to the committees of mosques and suraus so that they could run more activities for the communities that they are serving to.

Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang said such effort would further extend the roles of mosques and suraus to go beyond being simply houses of worship.

The parliamentarian made these remarks at the presentation of financial aid to 67 mosques and suraus in Subis District at Kampung Tanjun Belipat in Niah recently.

Amad Lai acknowledged that when it came to holding activities especially during the holy fasting month of Ramadan, the managements of mosques and suraus would always be facing financial constraints.

“As such, the financial assistance from the government is very much needed in order to ensure that all the activities planned by the respective mosque and surau committees throughout Ramadan could run smoothly.

“Nevertheless, I must remind the surau and mosque committees to spend the given funds wisely,” he said.

It is reported that each of the 67 suraus and mosques across Subis received RM1,000.

The handover of funds was witnessed by TBS Miri head Marini Juraibi and Jais Miri officer Shazli Dato Seri Abdul Kadir.
