KUCHING: The government is working hard towards addressing issues related to the growing population in Kampung Melayu Bau near here, which have been around for quite some time.

According to Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, he has brought the issues to the government, adding that the village extension project for Kampung Melayu Bau is still under study.

‘We understand this need as families grow and they need their own space. We will look into this matter; Kampung Buso is also under this consideration,” he spoke at the ‘Majlis Ringkat Ramadan’ at the village yesterday, which doubled as the opening ceremony for Kampung Melayu Bau multipurpose hall.

On this new facility, Henry said the hall is on the former site of Public Works Department (JKR) quarters and it was built on a RM200,000 budget.

“I understand that such budget is not much, and we will source for more funds to add more facilities to this hall,” he assured the villagers.

Meanwhile, Henry expressed his appreciation to the people of Bau, who have been loyal to the Barisan Nasional (BN), and praised them for understanding the concept of development.

“It (development) does not come easy – the government needs your support and you should assist the government towards achieving that vision,” he said.

Earlier in her remarks, Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu said Henry had achieved much in transforming Bau, despite being first-time assemblyman.

“As an elected representative, I am confident that he can bring changes to this village and provide equal treatment to everyone irrespective of race,” said Jamilah, who hails from Kampung Melayu Bau.

Jamilah also pointed out that Henry had been instrumental in the village multipurpose hall project, and also in upcoming Bau Administrative Centre.

The ‘Majlis Ringkat Ramadan’ yesterday also held the distribution of ‘Bubur Lambuk’ to the public by the Bau branch of Sarawak United National Youths Organisation (Saberkas) and presentation of welfare aid to the needy including less-fortunate senior citizens from the village.
