‘Kpg Sg Bedil to have its own waterfront soon’
KUCHING: The dream for Kampung Sungai Bedil to have its own waterfront should materialise soon as a study on the proposal is currently ongoing.
According to Assistant Minister of Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) is conducting research on the planned project, which is expected to kick off soon.
“I was informed that a study is ongoing and the project will commence soon. The waterfront will encompass Kampung Sungai Bedil right down to Kampung Lintang and upon completion, it should boost the image of both villages,” she told reporters prior to the distribution of ‘bubur lambuk’ to the public at Kampung Sungai Bedil yesterday.
The event was run by the Women’s Section of Chamber of Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs (Dewanita).
“Upon completion (of waterfront project), I believe both villages would receive more visitors; this would boost the socio-economic conditions there,” said Sharifah Hasidah.
On another subject, the Samariang assemblywoman called upon the local Neighbourhood Committee (RT) and Friendly Neighbourhood Committee (KM) to work together, especially in conducting night patrols across the village.
“We work together to ensure a safe surrounding. The community needs to feel safe and these patrols would at least help in monitoring the neighbourhood and reduce the possibility of crimes taking place.” Sharifah Hasidah later on advised the villagers to continue working together towards a clean, peaceful and harmonious village and in this respect, she hoped that all villages under her Samariang constituency would be a ‘model community’ to other villages.
Meanwhile, Dewanita chief Juita Drap said the distribution of ‘bubur lambuk’ is Dewanita’s annual event that is one of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes.
“We hope that our CSR initiative would become an example to others from the corporate sector and we pledge to continue this event next year,” she said.
The event also saw the presentation of Ramadan assistance to the needy and senior citizens from the village.
