‘Unfair to say opposition MPs don’t bring devt’

-

SIBU: Lanang MP Alice Lau said it was unfair for BN representatives to attack opposition MPs for not bringing development to their constituencies.

The BN government failed to provide allocation to opposition MPs yet accuse them for failing to bring development, she noted.

“Such allegations are indeed very unfair to us,” she said at the press conference held yesterday morning.

She pointed to West Malaysia where she said the Pakatan government in Selangor and Penang gave allocations to opposition MPs for development.

Opposition MPs in Selangor received an allocation of RM200,000 while those in Penang received RM40,000 for development funds, she added.

“The Pakatan Harapan government fork out allocation funds to the opposition MPs in these two states as we feel that it is the duty of every MP to play their roles effectively in bringing development to their respective constituencies.”

She lamented the BN government does not provide any allocation to opposition MPs, perhaps fearing that they could fully utilise the funds to upgrade their constituencies so much so that BN could not wrest back the seat. Touching on Lanang constituency, Lau said it had been a BN seat for the past 18 years and the MP should have fully utilised the allocations to improve the longhouses.

“Why suddenly now all the fuss when these BN representatives from the area are blaming the opposition for not bringing any development to Lanang constituency?” she asked.

A fair and just government, Lau argued, should always give allocation to opposition MPs so that they could at least help bring basic amenities to the constituency, not to mention large scale development.

She said voters in the constituency held by the opposition also paid taxes to the government and they should also enjoy all the amenities like those forked out to areas under BN MPs.
