MIRI: The state Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) is taking the opportunity during Ramadan to foster closer ties with members of the multi-racial communities in Sarawak.

According to PAS Sarawak information chief Muhammad Afiq Mohd Khazar, party members from across the state are currently busy running charity programmes set throughout the fasting month.

These activities include donations of daily essential items to the underprivileged, distribution of ‘bubur lambuk’ to the public, ‘tazkirah’ (group religious talks), Tadarus Al-Quran (Quran recital programme), as well as ‘Singgah Sungkei’ and ‘Singgah Sahur’ – a special programme where PAS members go around to distribute pre-packed food for ‘sungkei’ (Sarawak Malay term for breakof-fast) and also ‘sahur’ (predawn meal prior to fasting) to Muslims here.

“Actually before Ramadan, PAS members nationwide were already busy arranging for various ‘dakwah’ (propagation) and charity activities for the fasting month,” disclosed Muhammad Afiq.

He said the party’s ‘Projek Taqwa’ during Ramadan is meant to attract more Muslims to be active in activities run at mosques and surau, as well as individual charity programmes.

Moreover, he said PAS members would have more opportunities to carry out charity programmes for not only the Muslim community, but also those of different races and beliefs.

“May this opportunity during the Ramadan month become a strong ‘dakwah’ platform for us to continuously see the glory of Islam in this ‘Land of the Hornbills’,” said Muhammad Afiq.

On June 1, PAS Sibuti in collaboration with its Kampung Bakam branch held a charity donation programme that benefited more than 20 families in Kampung Sungai Rait.

The presentation of daily essential items was performed PAS Sibuti chairman Butir Bakar.
