Pakatan Harapan will correct irregularities of Barisan Nasional – Oscar Ling
SIBU: Sibu MP Oscar Ling has urged the Iban community to go for change in the coming general election and vote for opposition candidates.
He said the Barisan Nasional (BN) ruling government has been in power for 54 years and it is time for Iban voters to give Pakatan Harapan (PH) a chance to govern the country.
“The people will be able to see the difference and the change which PH will bring about in correcting all the irregularities in the BN administration over the past years,” he added.
Ling was speaking to the Iban community during his visit to a longhouse two days ago to mark the Gawai celebration.
Should PH come to power, he said, they would abolish GST which has brought about tremendous hardship to the lower and medium income groups and also caused the prices of commodities to soar. Ling also brushed aside the BN representatives’ assertion that the PH would abolish BR1M should the opposition pact come to power.
He said the PH would not only retain BR1M but could also offer more financial aids and amenities to benefit the people.
Citing the Penang PH government, he said a newborn baby is given a subsidy of RM200, RM1,000 for the family of a deceased and RM1,000 for students entering higher learning institutions.
On top of that, he said PH is also studying the possibility of providing free education for those taking up university studies. Ling accused the BN government of using allocation funds to threaten the voters if they elect the opposition.
This was against the spirit of democratic elections, he stressed.
If PH comes into power, it will treat the ruling party’s constituency or opposition constituency as an equal.
“This is the difference between BN and PH,” he said.
