Fifth Harmony’s first single as a quartet debuts atop chart

-

FIFTH Harmony’s new single “Down,” featuring Gucci Mane, surged to the top of the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart on Friday morning after its release.

The track is the group’s, which is now comprised of Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui, first new single in 2017 and the first released without original member Camila Cabello, who left the group in December.

The Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart measures the real-time acceleration of conversation around artistes and their music on Twitter.

The track first appeared on the Trending 140 around 9am ET Friday morning, after its release at midnight, and topped the list shortly afterwards. The nowfour-piece group first announced the new release on Instagram on Tuesday.

Brooke tweeted: “! It’s finally here. HOPE YOU LOVE IT #5HDOWN,” while Jane wrote: “well well well .... She’s hereeeee DO W N (sic).”

And Kordei recently insisted that their new material is some of the best Fifth Harmony have ever done.

She said: “We’re not the same people we were a year ago. We’re not even the same people we were two months ago.

“You’ll hear our growth and maturity reflected in the music we’re creating. We’ve been working really hard. And this is the first time personally that I’ve vibed out and turned on Fifth Harmony on my own because I love the songs so much. We’ve literally been vibing out to our own album.”

The release comes just two weeks after Cabello, 20, dropped solo single ‘Crying in the Club’ and teased her next outing ‘I Have Questions’ from her solo record ‘The Hurting, The Healing, The Loving’.
