1,200 expected to attend Nuzul Al-Quran 2017 at Masjid Darul Hana on June 11

KUCHING: The Sarawak Islamic Council ( MIS) expects some 1,200 guests to attend the statelevel Nuzul Al- Quran 2017 at Masjid Darul Hana along Jalan Tun Salahuddin here this June 11 ( Sunday), with the ceremony scheduled to commence at 5.30pm.

According to MIS president Datu Misnu Taha, this year’s theme will be ‘Ukhuwah Islamiah Asas Penyatuan Ummah’ (Islamic Solidarity Foundation of Unity of the Ummah).

In a press conference on the event yesterday, he said Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, as well as Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datin Amar Dato’ Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

Of the 1,200 expected turnout, 200 guests would comprise state ministers and assistant ministers together with their spouses, the State Secretary and his wife, permanent secretarie­s to ministries, heads of government department­s and agencies, as well as staff members of the MIS, Sarawak Fatwa Board, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak and Sarawak Wakaf Board.

Another 1,000 will be made up of community leaders, state and federal agencies personnel, representa­tives of mosques and suraus, representa­tives of associatio­ns, members of the Armed Forces and police, students of institutio­ns of higher learning, as well as members of the public.

Leading up to the event, there will also be two forums on Nuzul Al-Quran (Revelation of the Quran) at Wisma Persekutua­n, Bangunan Sultan Iskandar at Jalan Simpang Tiga here tomorrow (June 8) scheduled to commence at 2pm; and at Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya the next day (June 9) at 2.30pm.

The theme of both forums is ‘Al- Quran Lambang Perpaduan Ummah’ (Al – Quran Symbol of Ummah Unity), with Khalidi Ibrahim from the state Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) and Wan Jaapar Wan Ahmad from Federal Territorie­s Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) on the panel, and Hasfa Bakhry Hassan from Malaysian Islamic Developmen­t Department (Jakim) as the moderator.

Meanwhile, Misnu urged fellow Muslims to continue observing the fasting month.

According to him, so far a total of 22 Muslims have been nabbed for eating and drinking in public in the daytime during Ramadan.

“Six of these arrests were made in Kuching,” he said.
