20th, respectively – each taking home RM300.
A total 27 JKKKs were shortlisted for this competition, which was suggested by Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin at a JKKK Leadership Seminar last December.
Manyin, who is Tebedu assemblyman, had set aside an allocation of RM20,000 for the organisation of this competition.
In his remarks prior to presenting the prizes that night, the minister reminded the JKKKs to actively continue their activities slated for the wellbeing of their respective villages.
He called on the committees and their respective Ketua Kaum ( headmen) to look into ways to develop their land into profitable ventures such as through the planting of commercial crops.
He also touched on the importance of education, explaining further the state government’s emphasis on English and Science subjects.
He also expressed his hope that Tebedu folks, especially the younger generation, would actively participate in the ‘ Digital Economy’ once the ICT infrastructure across this district is enhanced.
Meanwhile, Tebedu district officer Raymond Achen said the ‘JKKK Cemerlang’ programme was meant to motivate and encourage members of the JKKKs to remain active and strive for the best for the benefit of their respective villages.
According to him, the judging criteria included assessment of the key performance indicators ( KPIs) of each JKKK.
“I think this is the first of such competition in Sarawak, and it is fully funded by Dato Sri Michael Manyin,” he said.
Political secretary to chief minister Edward Kurik and Serian District Officer Lim Hock Meng were among those present at the dinner, which also doubled as the district- level ‘ Sarawak Celebrates’ programme for Gawai Dayak.
The newly-renovated and tiled ‘awah’ ( beranda) of Kampung Sungan longhouse was also declared open that evening.
