PKR lodges police reports against university lecturer
KUCHING: Two police reports were lodged at Simpang Tiga One Stop centre yesterday against university lecturer Kamarul Zaman Yusoff for his unfounded accusations of PKR state chairman Baru Bian that appeared in an online news portal on Thursday (June 8).
The statement published under the title ‘Selepas Hannah, pensyarah UUM tuduh pemimpin PKR Sarawak bawa dakyah Kristian’ is an attempt to incite ill will between Muslims and Christians, claimed State PKR vice- chairman See Chee How.
In the news article, Kamarul accused Baru who is also Ba Kelalan assemblyman for mixing his religiosity with politics, and that Baru is celebrating or paid tribute to Israelis ( meraikan ‘orang- orang’ Israel) in his book ‘Long Awakening’.
“This kind of speech must stop. People like him ( Kamarul) should be stopped,” See told reporters after lodging his report together with state PKR secretary Nicholas Bawin.
“The unfounded accusations (statements) by Kamarul are malicious, insensitive and reckless. I lodge this report urging the police to carry out prompt and necessary investigation,” he added.
The two police reports are for the safety of Baru who has become the target of Kamarul.
See said due to similarities in the report, other PKR members had decided not to lodge their own reports.
When asked if he hoped to see the state government ban Kamarul from entering the state, See said he would leave it to the state government to decide.
Nicholas meanwhile said a man of calibre such as Kamarul should not say such things as it infringes the Federal Constitution of religious freedom and the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“We are a peace-loving people and have never incited hatred of anybody. He (Kamarul) is a man of faith and should be more cautious in what he is saying,” Nicholas said.
He added that there should not be room for religious extremism in Malaysia as sowing (religious) hatred would only lead to quarrels.
