DBNA Youth Movement to organise more activities for Bidayuhs

-

KUCHING: The DBNA ( Dayak Bidayuh National Association) Youth Movement ( DYM) will organise more activities for the Bidayuh community.

DYM chairman Dr Kismet Hong Ping said the movement recently organised the DBNA Bowling Competition 2017, which was a good learning experience for members.

“DYM, as the youth arm of the DBNA, was formed in October 2015, right after the Bidayuh Youth Symposium. Its formation was initiated by DBNA chief advisor Dato Sri Michael Manyin, who gave us RM20,000 as a launching grant,” he said.

Kismet said the bowling competition on May 27 involved 24 teams representing all DBNA branches and the Bidayuh Graduates Association ( BGA).

“We are grateful that DYM was given the mandate and trust by the DBNA central body to organise this bowling tournament. We hope to organise bowling tournaments in the future which are open to members of the Bidayuh community,” he said.

DBNA deputy president Boniface Anat, who officiated at the prize giving ceremony, said he hoped the tournament would be held annually.

KUB1 from DBNA Kuching Urban Branch won first place in the inter-team category, followed by DBNA Miri and DBNA Serian in second and third place.

DYM’s first major activity was a hike in April last year involving 40 youths up Bung Jagoi, a mountain known for its biodiversity and link to Bidayuh history.
