Govt sets aside RM148,000 for Kuih Raya programme

KUCHING: The state government, through the Women and Family Department, has allocated RM148,000 for the ‘Sumbangsih Kuih Raya’ programme this year.

This distributi­on of cakes and biscuits to enforcemen­t and security personnel working during Hari Raya is an annual affair for the department.

According to Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah, this year the department has identified eight agencies that will receive 7,400 packages – each containing six types of cakes and biscuits – which will be distribute­d tomorrow.

“This year marks an increase from the 6,500 packages distribute­d to seven agencies last year, involving a fund worth RM120,000 from the state government,” she told reporters during the packing of the cakes at Wisma Wanita here yesterday.

The eight recipients of the ‘Sumbangsih Kuih Raya 2017’ are the Armed Forces, Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Fire and Rescue Department, Prisons Department, Malaysian Maritime Enforcemen­t Agency (MMEA), Royal Customs and Excise Department, Immigratio­n Department and Road Transport Department (JPJ).

The packages will be distribute­d to the army and police tomorrow at Dewan Bukavu of the Penrissen Army Camp, of which the ceremony will be attended by Chief Minister’s wife Datin Amar Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang.

The next distributi­on will take place at the auditorium of Kuching Central Prison near here this june 14, involving Prisons Department and JPJ personnel.

The event will continue on the same day at the MMEA Complex in Muara Tebas, where the packages will be given to the MMEA, Customs, Fire and Rescue, and Immigratio­n staff members. Head of State’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib will attend the event.

Meanwhile, the Associatio­n of Wives of Ministers and Assistant Ministers of Sarawak (Sabati) also contribute­d RM10,000 for the instant ‘ketupat’ to be distribute­d to the army.

Members of Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) Samariang Women’s Wing, Women’s Section of Chamber of Sarawak Bumiputera Entreprene­urs (Dewanita), Single Mothers Associatio­n of Sarawak, Indian Women Associatio­n Sarawak and Sarawak Kek Lapis Entreprene­urs Associatio­n were involved in the packing of the cakes yesterday.
