SIBU: The first-ever AGE Convention, which kicked off at the indoor stadium near the Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue station here on Friday, is the place to go for those wanting to experience the excitement they do not see every day.

The event, which concludes today, is a collaboration between Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and Sanyan Road Recreation Club (SRRC).

SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King officiated at the opening on Friday night.

According to Visit Sibu Year (VSY) 2017 main coordinator Councillor Wong Hie Ping, the convention is among the events under the VSY 2017 campaign.

AGE Convention organising chairman Richard Lee said a list of fun-packed exciting activities had been lined up for the event.

“Among them are exhibitions of exotic pets such as wild lizards, snakes, fish and turtles as well as those on limited world-class scale models and toys, food art and an autoshow,” he said, adding that ‘AGE’ stands for ‘Artistic, Gaming and Entertainment’.

“Moreover, visitors get to experience VR (virtual reality) technology, the ‘Escape Room’ and complete mission, mural arts by professional artists and an exhibition on cultural music instrument.

“We also exhibit the multicollection of unique coins and stamps, the Dota 2 tournament, board games, the PS4 challenge and cosplay competition,” said Lee, who is also SRRC chairman.

Additionally, the objective of holding this event is to provide opportunities for locals and tourists to personally experience the ‘fantastic AGE activities’.

“Most of the events take place inside Sibu Indoor Stadium, where visitors have to get their tickets at the main entrance.

“Other events such as the autoshow will take place at the parking bays of the indoor stadium. We hope the people of Sibu from all walks of life and also visitors would turn up in full force at the AGE Convention here.”

Kapitan Connie Loh and SRRC advisor Datuk Andrew Wong were also present at the official ceremony.

The AGE Convention is open daily from 10am to 10pm throughout the three days.

There are also stalls at the stadium selling various food and drinks.
