-

KUCHING: United People’s Party (UPP) Youth chief Dr Johnical Rayong wants all communities to support each other regardless of their racial or religious background.

“Support can mean being respectful towards each other or helping each other with activities organised by other races or religions in the state,” he said when officiating at Kuching Hindu Youth Organisation (Khyo) pool tournament at Jalan Kempas here yesterday.

According to him, Sarawakians must continue to preserve the existing harmony and unity among various races as it was the main contributing factor to the country’s progress and prosperity.

“As a multi-cultural community and state like Sarawak, its people must always respect and be supportive of one another regardless of race, background and religion in order to safeguard racial unity. I believe Sarawak have always been like that and I hope Sarawak remains a multicultural community respectful toward each other forever,” he added.

He assured that UPP Youth would always support Khyo in organising healthy activities in the future.

“UPP Youth and the party itself support all communities in the state. We believe that by continuing to be united and being supportive of each other Sarawak will forever remain prosperous,” he said.

Khyo president Kannan Muniadi thanked UPP for supporting and jointly organising the competition. He revealed that the competition was the second time that Khyo and UPP Central Youh had collaborated in organising an event.

“We first collaborated in 2015 in organising a Deepavali event. We, the Indian youths of Kuching, are grateful for the support from UPP, especially UPP Youth in organising this event,” he commented.

The pool competition was also part of the Khyo Sports Carnival.

Also present at the competition’s launch were UPP Community Service Board chairman Yap Min Su and central executive secretary Margaret Fong.
