UCTS introduces degree in manufacturing engineering
SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak’s (UCTS) School of Engineering and Technology has introduced a new programme called Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering (Hons).
According to the institution, students would be introduced to the latest manufacturing concepts, theories, knowledge and skills within the field.
Manufacturing is a discipline within engineering that deals with production technology, sciences, and practices including the research, design and development of systems, processes, machines, tools and equipment.
The course would instil analytical skills, especially skills in integrating technology with commercial and organisational solutions, UCTS said.
“Careers in manufacturing calls for an engineer in a plant or factory, designing new products for consumer, optimising efficiencies at product output, optimisation at material usage consultant in engineering field, and many other industries,” it added.
In the age of rapid innovation, complex technology and sustainability, the job of a manufacturing engineer has become even more important than before.
The manufacturing engineer’s primary focus is to turn raw materials into a new or updated product in the most economic, efficient and effective way possible.
Manufacturing engineers are also involved in supply chain management, logistics and distribution, quality management as well as environmental and lifecycle management.
In short, this is the branch of engineering concerned with understanding, analysing and improving complex industrial and manufacturing systems.
UCTS is currently equipped with advanced engineering tools to support the programme. Coupled with advanced topics related to manufacturing, a student would be exposed to related knowledge and skills in this programme.
Application is open for the September 2017 intake.
