Community invited to Internatio­nal Archives Day

KUCHING: Sarawak State Library is inviting the community to celebrate Internatio­nal Archives Day 2017on July 9.

The celebratio­n is an opportunit­y to get to know and understand the roles and functions of the State Records Repository in documentin­g the history of Sarawak, and helping the public access the necessary informatio­n, according to a media statement here yesterday.

The Internatio­nal Archives Day 2017 Exhibition, open to all, will be conducted at the State Library’s lobby from 8am to 5pm.

‘A Week with Archives’ programme themed ‘Archives, Citizenshi­p and Intercultu­ralism’ will be held from June 13 to 16 in conjunctio­n with the celebratio­n.

Among the interestin­g programmes lined up for ‘A Week with the Archives’ are ‘Archives Photograph­s: Describe Me!’, ‘History and Me!’, ‘I Love History! Saya Sayang Sejarah!’ and ‘Old Newspaper: The Hidden History’.

It is meant to raise awareness among the public on the importance of records and archives in providing basic history identity.

It is also to raise awareness on the importance of preserving records and archives for long-term storage.

The programme is open to all and admission is free.
