KOTA BHARU: A family was pleasantly surprised when one of them who had been studying abroad for more than three years returned home to celebrate Hari Raya with them this time.

Anis Farhana Ibrahim, 28, who is pursuing her Masters in Engineering at the University of Kagoshima, Japan, as well as her husband Nik Mohd Faiz Nik Azlan, 25, and 20-monthold daughter Nik Nusaibah Al Khaulah, showed up at the formers parents home in Kampung Pulau Belanga here, yesterday evening.

Zabidah Ismail, 55, and her husband Ibrahim Isa, 57, were ecstatic and lost for words when their daughter and her family appeared at their doorstep, courtesy of Bank Simpanan Nasional.

“I am very touched and grateful to Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) for helping my daughter and her husband and 20-monthold daughter to return home for Aidilfitri.

Anis Farhana is among three Malaysian students studying abroad sponsored by BSN to celebrate Hari Raya in their hometowns.

Meanwhile, Anis Farhana said she yearned to meet her family each year, however her family did not have the means to afford a trip back home.

“In Japan I focus my studies full time, while my husband sells food supplies to supermarkets. The income is just enough for food and rent, and we do not have savings to fly back home.

“This year’s Hari Raya celebration is very meaningful for me as I am finally able to hug my mother and father, after so long,” she said.

BSN Strategic Communications chief Puspa Marina Omar said the company never failed to carry out its corporate social responsibility during the festive season, and this time, it came up with a campaign called ‘Riuhkan Raya BSN’.

“This is one of the segments by BSN, namely social responsibility activities focusing on family ties during the festive season,” she said.
