Rolando is the lone star
SIBU: Rolando Lim is the last state cueist remaining after he cruised into the last 32 of the 29th National Close Snooker Championship in Kuala Lumpur on Friday night.
Two others, 2016 Sarawak Closed champion Ng Hon Man and Sarikei’s top player Elvis Wong, were shown the exit.
Lim, the 34-year-old businessman from Kuching, easily beat Azuwar from Kuala Lumpur 4-0 (71-31, 78-18, 41-13, 55-40) to cement his reputation as one of the most consistent players in the state. Relying on his trademark long distance potting, Lim took the first three frames at ease and refused to be cowed in the fourth frame, even though he trailed at one stage.
“I was able to stay focus and put my feet firmly on the ground as I tried to slow down the game when it matters most,” Lim said when contacted.
Lim, last season’s Sibu Closed runner-up, expressed satisfaction at making the last 32.
“The long road ahead looks bumpy and, hopefully, I can maintain my form and continue to stay focused.”
However, on paper, he is not expected to advance further as his next opponent is ranked national No. 3.
“I know the odds are against me but I will try my best to win something for the state,” he added.
