Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd brings Raya cheer to orphans

-

SIBU: More than 80 orphans from the Sarawak Orphans Welfare Organisation ( Peryatim) had an early Raya celebration when they received festive goodie bags from Lebuhraya Borneo Utara Sdn Bhd ( LBU) – the project delivery partner of the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak – during a ‘buka puasa’ ( break- offast) event at the orphanage here on Saturday evening.

Led by their chief executive officer Safuani Abdul Hamid, LBU staff members distributed goodie bags comprising new Raya clothes, shoes and ‘duit raya’ ( cash packets) to the children, aged seven to 18.

At the event, LBU also donated RM20,000 to Peryatim Sibu.

Safuani said the company decided to bring cheer to these less- fortunate children and share with them the meaning of love and sharing in this holy month as part of LBU’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).

“We want to share with them the blessings and let them know that they are not neglected, especially during the festive season.

“That is why we want the children to get into the celebration mood of Hari Raya Aidilfitri by giving them new clothes and shoes, just like any other children.

“Likewise, we hope more corporate bodies can come forward to help the lessfortunate,” he said.

The Pan Borneo Highway, of which construction works are ongoing, was officially launched by the Prime Minister in Bintulu on March 31, 2015.

Upon its completion in 2021, the highway from Telok Melano to Merapok will span a total distance of 1,060km.

Pan Borneo Highway is slated to be the transportation backbone of the states of Sabah and Sarawak and will play a major role in opening up economic corridors and opportunities in areas it transverses.
