Kedah denies giving out 3-month bonus for state civil servants

-

ALOR SETAR: The Kedah government has brushed off rumours on paying a bonus of three-month salary to its 5,000 civil servants in conjunction with Aidilfitri, which went viral on social media since yesterday.

Its Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said the spread of rumours by irresponsible quarters would only tarnish the image of the state government led by him.

“This is not logical and it is not rational at all. Even Selangor (government) gives out two- anda-half months ( bonus). Those who come out with this rumour should not have done so especially during this fasting month.

“This (three-month bonus) has never happened in Kedah history,” he told reporters at the ‘ Ihya Ramadan’ programme for widows, orphans and special children at the state police contingent headquarters here yesterday.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Bashah said the Kedah government had agreed to giving a special financial aid of RM500 to its civil servants which would be officially announced after the state executive council meeting on June 14.

“We will follow what was announced by the federal government by giving RM500 (each for civil servants) and RM250 each for retirees. Anyway, the details will be announced after the upcoming exco meeting, and the payment will be made before Aidilfitri.

“The state government has also allocated RM2.4 million for the Aidilfitri special aid to ‘tok mudim’ (traditional circumciser), Quran teachers, designated persons performing bathing corpse and traditional midwives,” he said.

Earlier at the event, a total of 109 widows, 75 orphans and 36 special children received food hampers and ‘duit raya’ courtesy from the Kedah Menteri Besar’s Office. — Bernama
