SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) has signed a letter of understanding ( LoU) with Guangdong AIB Polytechnic (GDAIB) to facilitate various joint programmes slated for mutual benefits.

UCTS vice- chancellor Prof Dato Dr Abdul Hakim Juri and GDAIB party committee secretary Prof Yang Qunxiang inked the documents yesterday, witnessed by Minister of International Trade and E- commerce Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

The programmes to be rolled out would include student and staff exchanges, industrial attachments, a joint research study centre, and the designing of new programmes or franchising.

According to Wong, the collaboration is an advantage for UCTS because GDAIB is one of the top institutions in China; in comparison, UCTS only started four years ago.

“It is a new beginning for both institutions and further discussions on collaborations in other aspects would follow.

“China and Malaysia are good friends, particularly the Sarawakians and the Chinese.”

Wong also thanked the Consul- General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching, Fu Jijun, for helping Sarawak especially in connecting the state with China.

“As I am now the Minister of International Trade and ECommerce, I will visit China again,” he said, adding that China has come a long way in building a strong country especially in the aspect of economy.

Meanwhile, Yang said GDAIB was established in 1952 and now has 52 programmes for its students, who come from all over the world.

He said in recent years, GDAIB had established collaborations with institutions in Thailand and Cambodia.

“Now, we have decided to extend our collaboration to UCTS. Though it is very new, I am very much impressed with the campus – it is really a beautiful campus,” Yang said.

Sarawak China Graduates Alumni Association chairman Datuk Lau Nai Hoh also attended the signing ceremony.
