Mass potluck picnicstyl­e ‘buka puasa’ this evening at Sibu Town Square

SIBU: Members of the public are encouraged to join the state’s inaugural mass potluck picnic-style ‘buka puasa’ ( break- of- fast) at Sibu Town Square Phase 1 tonight.

Those joining are encouraged to bring their own food, while starters such as drinks, dates, ‘ bubur pedas’ and ‘ bubur lambuk will be provided by the organiser.

The event targets 6,000 people, including those from government agencies, non- government­al organisati­ons (NGOs), religious bodies, statutory bodies and schools.

The event is organised by Sibu Resident’s Office together with Nangka Service Centre and Sibu Division Permanent Committee for Muslim Festivitie­s.

According to Assistant Minister of Education and Technologi­cal Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, this is the first ‘ buka puasa’ event in the state to involve a huge number of government agencies, NGOs, religious bodies, and the public.

A total of 170 contingent­s including schools, NGOs, mosques, churches, temples, Peryatim Sibu, all government department­s and statutory bodies have been invited to come.

The programme is scheduled to commence at 5pm with performanc­es such as Nasyid and Qasidah.

By 6pm, there will be a short ‘ceramah’ (talk) by Sibu Islamic Department, followed by recital of Al- Quran.

There will also be a space prepared for Maghrib prayer.
