Institute fetes welfare home children to ‘buka puasa’ dinner

KUCHING: In embracing the spirit of Ramadan, the Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service shared the blessings of the month of Ramadan by hosting the children and wardens of a local children’s home at a ‘buka puasa’ dinner at a leading hotel here on Wednesday.

The event was attended by State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, along with his wife.

Morshidi is the Chairman of the Leadership Institute’s Board of Directors.

Leadership Institute chief executive officer Shebli Hairani said they were delighted to have hosted this year’s breaking- offast with the children.

“We are also grateful to the State Secretary for making time at this heart-warming occasion which is very much a special moment for these children,” he said.

The welfare institutio­n has over 57 children under its care, aged between four year to 17 years old. The centre is under the purview of the State Welfare Department.

The Berbuka Puasa outreach activity is an annual programme by the Leadership Institute and constitute­s one of the many corporate social responsibi­lity initiative­s by the State Civil Service training institute.

Among those present at the dinner were the State Attorney General Talat Mahmood Abdul Rashi, Deputy State Secretarie­s Datu Ismawi Ismuni, Datu Jaul Samion, Datu Dr Sabariah Putit, and Director of State Planning Unit Datu Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

The dinner also saw a gathering of family members of staff of the Institute.

A total of 240 people attended the dinner, which included staff members of Leadership Institute who came with their family members.

The Institute was officially launched on December 9 last year during the State Civil Service Day celebratio­n.

The Leadership Institute is a training centre for the civil service in Sarawak.

The organisati­on also assists various government department­s and agencies in their recruitmen­t drives and also conducts assessment for career progressio­n.

Among the training programmes offered by the institute are the HighPerfor­ming Leadership program, the Competency for Career Developmen­t program, the Support Skills Developmen­t program and the latest bite- size programs.
