Bright future for growers of Durian Musang King
KUCHING: Durian Musang King also known as Durian Raja Kunyit with registration number D197 is one of the best durians in Malaysia.
Durian Musang King weighs about 2.5 to 3.8 kg. Its flesh is smooth, creamy and yellowish while the taste is sweet with a slight bitterness.
To meet rising needs, the nursery would concentrate on plantations of such variety as well as carry out research and development. Industry players have confidence in the seedlings produced by the nursery.
In May 2017, the sale of Durian Musang King in Pahang had gone up from more than RM74 to RM100 per kg. Each durian sells at RM380 ( RM100x3.8kg). The durian growers are satisfied with the wholesale price of RM35 to RM60 per kg but it hiked from RM80 to RM100. Although expensive, this type of durian is much preferred.
The future looks bright for durian growers. Exports to Singapore, China, Hong Kong and Macau give investors confidence Durian Musang King can earn more foreign currency at prices marked up to RM600.
It is selling well in Hong Kong and China. In Hong Kong, travel agencies organise tours to Penang to taste the King of Fruits.
Durian sale is picking up in China and investors are urged to grab this opportunity to explore the Chinese market.
