Professional artist to share experience as a dyslexic
KUCHING: The Dyslexia Association of Sarawak ( DASwk) in collaboration with the State Library ( Pustaka), State Education Department and Le Nomade Hostel will be organising an art exhibition and workshop at Pustaka from 9am on July 8 and 9.
Its president Dr Ong Puay Hoon said the two- day event will be conducted by professional artist and illustrator Vincent Low.
“Low will be sharing his life experiences as a dyslexic with parents, teachers and the public on July 8 and showcasing his art works on both days of the event,” according to her statement yesterday.
According to her, Low endured a bitter experience during his school days as his parents and teachers did not realise he was dyslexic, so did not provide the support he needed.
“He failed in many subjects, was always punished by his teachers and bullied by friends. In secondary school, he was involved in gangsterism, often played truant and smoked.
“However, his life started to change when his father enrolled him in an art and advertising court after he failed the SPM. Today, Low is a successful artist and illustrator whose art works have been featured in Morocco and Singapore as well as published in the mass media such as The Star, The Daily Mail ( UK) and The Huffington Post ( US),” she said.
Ong said Low will also be conducting an art workshop at 9am on July 9.
“There is a registration fee of RM20 per participant to join this workshop and they are required to bring their own drawing paper and 2B pencils.”
