Bursa Malaysia ends week broadly lower

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia ended broadly lower yesterday, while the bellwether FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI ( FBM KLCI) inched up above the 1,790-level on buying interest in selected heavyweigh­ts led by plantation-related counters, IOI Corp and Kuala Lumpur Kepong.

The FBM KLCI improved 1.30 points to close at 1,791.31 compared with Thursday’s close of 1,790.31.

The key index, which opened 1.3 points higher at 1,791.31, moved between 1,787.84 and 1,796.75 throughout the day.

On the broader market, losers thumped gainers 525 to 359, with 386 counters unchanged, 524 counters untraded and 24 others suspended.

Volume increased to 2.0 billion units valued at RM2.93 billion from 1.98 billion units valued at RM2.26 billion on Thursday.

Among heavyweigh­ts, IOI Corp jumped 11 sen to RM4.58 and Kuala Lumpur Kepong advanced 56 sen to RM25.30. TNB and Public Bank were two sen higher at RM14.44 and RM20.40 respective­ly, while Sime Darby gained one sen to RM9.62 and Maybank declined one sen to RM9.63.

Actively traded stocks included Netx and Anzo, which inched up half- a- sen each to six sen and 20 sen, with Nexgram f lat at five sen and CIMB easing three sen to RM6.73.

The FBM Emas Index declined 5.48 points to 12,751.8 4, the FBMT100 Index slid 5.10 points to 12,392.47, while the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 18.96 points higher at 12,979.11.

The FBM 70 lost 59.15 points to 15,139.77 and the FBM Ace slipped 0.13 of- a- point to 6,342.40.

On a sectoral basis, the Finance Index appreciate­d 33.72 points to 16,908.64 and the Plantation Index expanded 88.39 points to 8,016.97, while the Industrial Index shed 4.44 points to 3,282.87.

Main Market turnover was lower at 1.19 billion units worth RM2.82 billion from Thursday’s 1.38 billion units worth RM2.14 billion.

Volume on the ACE Market appreciate­d to 579.17 million units worth RM75.798 mil lion from 297.72 million units valued at RM81.04 million previously.

Warrants eased to 215.16 million units worth RM27.71 million from 283.9 million units worth RM30.19 million.

Consumer products accounted for 55.04 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products ( 281.85 mil lion), constructi­on ( 80.25 million), trade and services ( 443.93 mi l l ion), technology ( 50.73 million), infrastruc­ture ( 28.81 million), SPAC ( 163,100), finance ( 90.37 million), hotels ( 539,800) , properties ( 121. 57 mi l l ion) , plantat ions ( 27.51 mi l lion) , mining ( 0), REITs ( 8.14 million) and closed/ fund ( 5,000).
