Junior paddlers excel in regional championship
KUCHING: Four Sarawak paddlers – Alice Chang Li Sian, Christopher Goh-Kho Hian Hui from Kuching, Karen Lynn Dick from Sibu and Catherine Chan Zhe Yen of Miri – were in fine form at the 23rd Southeast Asian Junior & Cadet Table Tennis Championship held at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall in Singapore from June 13-16.
They contributed eight medals to the Malaysian team’s total medal haul of two golds, three silvers and six bronzes.
Of the four paddlers, Karen was the best performer as she won the Girls U15 team gold and Girls U15 doubles gold as well as the bronze in the Girls U15 singles.
Goh-Kho was a member of the Boys U15 team which won the silver and he also collected two bronze medals in the Boys U15 singles and doubles.
National paddler Chang won the Girls U18 team silver and the Girls U18 bronze while Chan was a silver medallist in the Girls U18 team event.
Kuching Divi sion Table Tennis Association ( KDTTA) chairperson Helena Christine Wee congratulated Goh and Chang, the products of KDTTA development programme, for their excellent performance in Singapore.
“KDTTAf eel proud and honour ed that they were able to contribute to the national team’s medal haul. I am very satisfied with Goh’s performance and the same goes to Chang who has maintained a consistent performance in the international championships after joining the national squad for a year,” she said.
