Rain predicted for most towns this week
KUCHING: The Malaysian Meteorological Department ( MetMalaysia) has forecast rain for most towns across the state this coming week – except for Thursday, where fair weather is anticipated.
According to data on the MetMalaysia official website, the country is experiencing the Southwest Monsoon, which usually begins in the second half of May or early June, and ends in September.
“Inland areas in Sarawak generally experience quite evenly- distributed annual rainfall. Nevertheless, slightly less rainfall is received during the period between June and August, which corresponds to the occurrence of prevailing southwesterly winds.
“It must be pointed out that the highest annual rainfall area in Malaysia may well be found at the hill slopes of inland Sarawak. Long Akah, by virtue of its location, receives a mean annual rainfall of more than 5,000mm,” said MetMalaysia.
Places that are predicted to experience no rain this Thursday (June 22) include Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Kota Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Sarikei and Kapit.
Limbang can expect rain in the morning and thunderstorms in the afternoon come Thursday, while Sri Aman should enjoy fair weather the entire day tomorrow (June 20).
Thunderstorms are expected to take place mostly in the afternoon, especially on Friday and Saturday ( June 23 and 24), in all the abovementioned places.
