-

KAPIT: Some one hundred senior members of Kapit Kwang Tung Association attended the ‘Honour Parent’s Day Buffet’ organised by the association’s Women and Youth Wings on Saturday.

Organising chairperson Liew Mee Kiong ,who is the Women chief of Kapit Kwang Tung Association, said the event was to inculcate awareness among the younger generation the important moral value of honour and respect to parents.

“Tonight we celebrate ‘Parent’s Day’ where we combine the two occasions of Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. The purpose is to inculcate awareness among the younger generation the importance of honour and respect for our parents who raised us up to become what we are today. Without their sacrifices and care, we would not be here together,” said Liew.

“Honouring our parents is an expression of natural love and care for them. One need not spend lots of money to buy expensive items to please them. What they need most at their old age is our care and affection. When we’re young they take care of us and now (that) they’re getting old, it’s our turn to take care of them.”

The highlight of the evening saw the cutting of a birthday cake and ‘ang pow’ presentation to the elderly. Among those present were community leaders Temenggong Tan Kian Hoo, Pemanca Yong Thu Fook, Penghulu Sia Shui Poh, Kapitan Kong Cheak He and Kapitan Yap Hui Le.
