PBB Kpg Paya Mebi hands out Raya assistance to 50 needy folk
KUCHING: The Social and Welfare Bureau of PBB Kampung Paya Mebi distributed food contributions to some 50 needy individuals at the village near here on Saturday.
The ‘ Kasih Sayang Ramadan 2017’ programme recipients comprised individuals with disabilities (OKU), orphans, senior citizens and poor families.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, who is also Padawan Municipal Council ( MPP) chairman, presented the aid together with PBB Batu Kitang deputy chairman Ramli Bujang, PBB Batu Kitang Women’s section chief Saptuyah Yusuf and bureau chairman Shamsudin Unai at the function, which also included the handing- over of a wheelchair to an OKU.
It is learned that this presentation marked the 100th wheelchair donated by the bureau to the needy since it introduced this programme in 2009.
According to Shamsudin, the programme – run together with Kampung Paya Mebi development and security committee (JKKK) and the committee of Masjid Al- Muhajirin Kampung Paya Mebi – aims to relieve the burden off the needy and share the Hari Raya Aidilfitri joy with them.
“It is our hope to foster and encourage the spirit of helping one another among the multi-racial and multi-faith communities in Sarawak,” he said.
This ‘ Kasih Sayang Ramadan 2017’ also included the ‘ Khatam Al- Quran’ programme at masjid Al-Muhajirin, where around 100 Muslim women from 10 villages around Batu Kitang area took part.
