SARIKEI: Local traders have been reminded to sell controlled items listed under the Festive Season Price Control Scheme at not more than the ceiling price fixed by the government for the coming Hari Raya festive season.

Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry ( KPDNKK) Sarikei enforcement chief Idrus Nalin warned that stern action would be taken against those who breached the regulation in accordance with the Price Control and AntiProfiteering Act 2011.

Speaking during the official launch of the scheme at a supermarket here on Monday, Idrus said under the Act, firsttime offenders were liable to be compounded, while subsequent offenders face a fine or imprisonment.

“Additionally, enforcement officers are also empowered to seize or confiscate the items as exhibits,” he said.

During the first five months of this year, Idrus disclosed that KPDNKK had acted on 36 cases which resulted in the seizure of RM17,508 worth of goods and compounds totaling RM3,100.

This included 12 cases under the Price Control and Anti- Profiteering Act 2011 which saw RM806 worth of goods seized.

Joining Idrus for the divisionallevel launch of the Hari Raya Festive Season Price Control Scheme here was Deputy Sarikei Resident Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman.
