MCPF advises road users to be responsibl­e when driving

PUTRAJAYA: Road users are advised to practise a good attitude and to be responsibl­e when driving their vehicles as this can assist the government’s efforts to reduce the high accident rate during festive seasons.

Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation ( MCPF) senior vicechairm­an Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the good attitude include obeying the law, and refraining from doing anything that would distract them or other road users.

also Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research ( MIROS) chairman said road users could refrain from reading messages on smartphone­s since they could lose focus while driving.

“Many road users are still unaware that fiddling with their smartphone­s while driving can cause accidents.”

Lee said Malaysians should try hard to reduce road accidents and not be part of the statistics of Op Selamat I(Operation Safety) this festive season.

“It is impossible for us to achieve zero road accidents but we can lower the number of accidents every year if the level of awareness and commitment of road users can be improved.”

“Operations and law enforcemen­t are conducted not to inconvenie­nce road users but should be viewed positively as an effort to educate about road safety among the people.”
