Suspect who hacked off niece’s finger still in Indonesian police custody

-

KUCHING: The man who allegedly hacked off his niece’s finger in what was believed to be an act of revenge towards her father is being held by Indonesian police.

Padawan police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan said local police are waiting for the suspect to be handed over once their Indonesian counterparts are done with him.

“He is still being held in Indonesia. I was informed that this is because he is involved in selling stolen cars there,” he told reporters after a general roll call, promotion ceremony and Excellent Service Award presentation held at Kota Sentosa Police Training School Hall here yesterday.

According to previous reports, the 31-year- old suspect was arrested at 1am ( local time) on June 5 by the Indonesian National Army while trying to sell a car registered in Sarawak with no legal documents.

State Chief Datuk Dev Kumar confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect will be handed over to Padawan police once Indonesian police complete their investigation. He was also unable to provide an exact date.

On May 10, the suspect allegedly hacked off the eight-year- old girl’s pinkie at a shophouse in Kota Padawan. Her parents were not home at the time. Her brother tried to intervene but the suspect ran away.

The victim was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) but her finger could not be reattached.
