SRI AMAN: The involvement of and contribution from the womenfolk are vital in the nation’s development.

The chairwoman of the Women and Family Development Council ( MPWK) for Batang Lupar parliamentary constituency Zuraida Julai stressed that women must never be sidelined or dismissed in that they are just as capable as men in contributing to progress.

“Nevertheless, the womenfolk must have that sense of responsibility and self- ability within themselves.

“We are not weak – we must face the challenges and step up to the plate, together with the menfolk in developing this country,” she told reporters after distributing ‘ bubur pedas’ to the public yesterday.

The programme was jointly conducted by MPWK Batang Lupar and Batang Lupar Parliamentary Service Center at Kampung Semarang in Beting Maro, and also at Kampung Triso in Lingga near here.

Adding on, Zuraida said the roles of women today go beyond family development.

“Nowadays, there are more womenwhohavesuccessfulcareers – both in the public and private sectors – and manage to balance this with their responsibility to their families.”

On another matter, Zuraida believed that it is crucial for women to equip themselves with various skills, knowledge and expertise that would enable them to further contribute to nation-building alongside men.

“This is most important. As women, our key focus should be education. With knowledge, it helps us to guide our children and also manage our household economy. “Knowledge is power.” Adding on, she called upon all women’s organisations and associations to continue focusing on their target group – the womenfolk.

Maludam Sub- District Office administrative officer Noraini Eden also took part in the ‘ bubur pedas’ distribution yesterday.
