Rohani breaks fast with senior citizens
MIRI: Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim broke fast with senior citizens of the Senior Citizen Activity Centre ( Pawe) here last Monday.
The event held at the centre located at Krokop began with a prayer reading led by Abdul Shamad Remi from the Islamic Religious Office Miri followed by the Iftar.
At the event, Rohani distributed cash from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to 87 beneficiaries including members of Miri Pawe and Home for the Aged.
“The breaking of fast has become a culture practised by all races in Sarawak. Such a session can be a great platform for us to bring joy and happiness to the needy in various forms, especially during the month of Ramadan, approaching Hari Raya,” said Rohani.
She took the opportunity to perform Maghrib prayers with senior citizens. The breaking of fast session was made merrier with ‘selawat’ ( performance of songs of peace) and ‘ tazkirah’ (group motivational talks) by Sekolah Tunas Bakti ( P) Miri.
A cake was cut to celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day with senior citizens.
Present at the event were Women Development Department director general Datuk Yatimah Sarjiman, Social Welfare Department deputy director- general ( Operations) Zulkifli Ismail, Irene Andrew Ganggang from the state Welfare Department, Kayan community leader Temenggong Elizabeth Deng, Pawe Miri chairman Pemanca Wilson Siang Lim, and Sharifah Rahimah Wan Hashim from Miri Welfare Department as well as other Social Welfare Department and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).
