Anjung Singgah residents receive Raya goodies from Hope Place

-

KUCHING: Hope Place recently brought Hari Raya joy to three residents of Anjung Singgah after learning about their plight from the staff there.

Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan brought Raya goodies donated by members of the public. The items included soft drinks, Raya cookies and cakes, Raya hampers, and both new and second-hand clothes.

The homeless residents who will be celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri at Anjung Singgah are Azman Abdullah, who is partially-paralysed after a stroke and been living there since April; Siti Ting Abdullah and Monita Ann, who have been living there since March.

According to Wan, Hope Place needs to restock their 10kg packs of rice. Any members of the public or organisations who wish to help can contact him.

Hope Place is an non- governmental organisation ( NGO) that visits the poor and less-fortunate families to contribute some essential food items like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and noodles.

Many of these families or individuals barely earn enough to get through the month; hence many are grateful with the assistance of these basic necessities delivered to them.

For the families with children with special needs, or with elderly people, the NGO provide milk powder and diapers as well.

Hope Place carries out its aid deliveries once every two months because of the many families on its recipients’ list. Currently, it supports more than 160 families.
