KUCHING: A new Pasar Tani building will be built in Demak Laut to provide convenience for the residents to market their agricultural produce.

Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the plan has been included in the Development Master plan of Demak Laut even though the cost of the project has not yet been ascertained.

“The project site will be located near the current Pasar Tani, which is in fact a car parking area.

“I plan to have a new permanent Pasar Tani building built here, which will have proper and systematic features,” he said at the launch of the Demak Laut Pre- Syawal 2017 special bazaar yesterday.

The new building would be bigger and aimed at increasing the level of economic activities as well as to elevate the people’s socioeconomic standard in Demak Laut, he said.

Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority( Fama) state director Paza Dan was among those present at the function. Paza meanwhile said the Pre- Syawal special bazaars are located at 10 places involving a total of 517 participants.

These are at Medan Niaga Satok, Demak Laut, Matang Jaya, Bandar Baru Samariang, Simpang Tiga Federal Complex, Nyabor Saratok, Permai Sibu, Matu, Daro and Tedungan.

“Here, consumers are provided with all the essentials in preparing for Hari Raya apart from giving opportunities for farmers to market their produce,” Paza said.

At the ‘Jualan My Best Buy’ programme suppliers, retailers and wholesalers work together to provide good prices on selected and controlled items to consumers. Among them are cooking oil, sugar and flour.
